Orange Hot Chocolate

This homemade hot chocolate recipe uses dark chocolate, whole milk and orange peel for perfectly balanced rich and creamy mug of comfort.

Number of Servings: 2

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups whole milk

1 tablespoon powdered sugar

2-3 strips of orange peel (try to get as little of the white part of the orange as possible)

1 ounce dark chocolate (I used 72%)

Optional toppings: whipped cream, shaved chocolate, orange zest

Directions

Combine milk, sugar, orange peel in a small sauce pan and place over medium heat.

In a small bowl break the chocolate up into small pieces. Stir milk frequently and heat until hot but not boiling. Pour hot milk over chocolate and stir until chocolate is melted. Serve topped with whipped cream, shaved chocolate and orange zest.

S'mores Hot Chocolate

A rich and creamy hot chocolate recipe that will have you wanting to build a campfire and sing songs.

Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

6 cups whole milk

1/4 cup granulated sugar

4 ounces bittersweet chocolate chips

2 tablespoons honey

1/3 cup graham cracker crumbs

12 marshmallows

6 small skewers

Directions

In a medium saucepot, heat milk and sugar to simmering over medium heat, about 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from heat; whisk in chocolate chips until smooth.

Meanwhile, place honey on small plate. Invert 6 mugs into honey; slide around until rims are lightly coated in honey. Place graham cracker crumbs in small bowl; twist mug rims into crumbs until coated.

Thread 2 marshmallows onto each skewer. Using kitchen blowtorch, open flame on gas stove, or broiler, lightly toast marshmallows.

Divide hot chocolate between prepared mugs. Garnish with marshmallow skewers and serve immediately.

Warm Turtle Hot Chocolate

Chocolate and caramel come together in this quick-to-fix hot chocolate recipe. For a party, prepare the slow cooker version below.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups milk (fat-free, 2% or whole)

1 packet (1.25 oz.) dark chocolate hot cocoa mix

5 tablespoons caramel dessert topping, divided

1/4 cup miniature marshmallows

Directions

In 4-cup, microwave-safe, measuring cup combine milk, cocoa mix and 3 tablespoons of the caramel topping. Microwave on high (100% power) for 2 to 3 minutes or until hot, whisking every minute.

In small microwave-safe bowl place the remaining 2 tablespoons caramel topping. Microwave on high (100% power) for 15 to 45 seconds or until hot.

Pour chocolate mixture into two 10-ounce mugs. Top with marshmallows. Drizzle with the warm caramel topping.

Slow Cooker Warm Turtle Hot Chocolate Recipe

In large saucepan or Dutch oven heat 9 cups milk on over medium heat until hot. Do not boil. Pour into 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker. Whisk in 6 packets (1.25 oz. each) dark chocolate hot cocoa mix and 1 cup caramel dessert topping. Cover and keep warm on low-heat setting for 2 to 4 hours. Before serving, in microwave-safe bowl microwave 3/4 cup caramel dessert topping for 1 to 2 minutes or until hot, stirring every 30 seconds. To serve, ladle chocolate mixture into twelve 10-ounce mugs. Sprinkle with 1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows. Spoon hot caramel topping on each serving.

Spiced White Hot Chocolate

Ground nutmeg and cinnamon warm the soul in this simple but decadent white hot chocolate recipe.

Ingredients

3 cups half-and-half

¾ cup white chocolate chips

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 cinnamon stick

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Ground cinnamon and whipped cream for topping, if desired

Directions

Combine the half-and-half, chocolate chips, nutmeg and cinnamon stick in a medium saucepan. Whisk over medium-low heat until the chocolate chips are melted and the mixture is hot but not boiling.

Remove from the heat and pull out the cinnamon stick. Stir in the vanilla and whisk well. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, if desired.

AZTEC SALTED CARAMEL HOT CHOCOLATE

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Prairie Farms Salted Caramel Milk

  • 1/2 cup Prairie Farms Chocolate Milk

  • Prairie Farms aerosol whipped cream

  • dash Cayenne pepper

  • Caramel Syrup

Instructions

  • Combine salted caramel and chocolate milk and a dash of cayenne pepper for your desired level of heat. The cayenne pepper will intensify when it is heated up. On the stovetop or in the microwave, heat until hot, but not boiling.

  • Top with whipped cream, sprinkle with caramel sauce, and sprinkle with cayenne pepper.

Easy Hot Chocolate-Lactose Intolerant

1 cup 2% lactose-free milk

3 tablespoons dark chocolate chips

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat, stirring frequently.

When steaming, reduce heat to low, add chocolate chips, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar and continue to whisk until smooth and melted.

Pour into a mug and serve immediately with desired toppings or as is.
